  • I created this thread to give us enlightrnment on some things we should do to stay healthy.
    The popular saying that a healthy Man is a wealthy man, can not be over emphasised.
    This year you will only spend you money on food only and not on drugs.
    You can stay healthy.Health is a state of wholesomeness."I wish that above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in good HEALTH"3 John Verse 2.You get that in the Bible

    This thread is not for only me to contribute to,if you have any health tip you would want to share with the house, feel free to bring it on here.Knowledge is power,there is room for arguement on any health point that does not go down well with you.But let us stay FOCUSED and not deviate from the topic on this thread.
    Even if you do not have a contribution to make, just come here every day and read only.
    Note again lets leave out talks that would not contribute to our knowledge on this topic on this thread.

    There heart is one of the major and vital organs of the body.It beats continually for 24/7/365.If its stop to beat that means a journey to the great beyond.So guide your heart deligently for out of it proceeds the issues of life.

    25 TIPS FOR A HEALTHY HEART.

    By this you should know the heart can get sick.There are various heart diseases, some of which have no cure.
    The tips are:
    1. Eat more of vegetables, grains,greens, fruits,fish ,seeds,and yogurts

    2. Eat less of milk,chesse and nuts,Eggs especially when you are 25 yearss and above.

    3. Add garlic to your recipes.If you can withstand the smell though.

    4.Eat foods rich in Beta-carotene.Foods like carrots,carbage,sweet potatoes and dark leafy greens.Note eat them in their RAW state as much as possible.Heat Denature them.

    5. Reduce your sodium intake as much as possible to not more than 11/4 (eleven divided by four)teaspoons of salt per day.Salt has high risk effect on adults from 45 years above.It is linked to high blood pressure.Am still researching on this further.

    6. Eat regularly.Always observe all your meals,don't skip meals(Bankers,mostly take note),and don't eat in between meal.Don't eat junks(Student and women take note).Possiblly, have a meal time table.Please watch what you eat in order not to damage you liver.Note breakfast is the most important meal of the day,don't miss it.

    7. Drink enough water as much as possible during the day.W.H.O recommends at least 8 glasses of water per day and as much gallons as you can take.Human body is 80% water, all the Biochemical processes that takes place in the body are in the water medium.

    8. Switch over from Coffee to Tea.Coffee contains nicotine,which is classified as drugs by NDLEA.It also have its biochemical effect on the body, it is a stimulant.While Tea flushes the system especially herbal teas.

    9. Excercise regularly,it is good for the heart.

    10. Always take the stairs instead of an elevator or escalator at school and in the office.
  • 11. Do house work,take it as an extra chance to exercise.Ajebotas take note exempting your self from house work doesn't make you any better than the house help.

    12. Maintain a healthy weight.get a bathroom scale today.

    13.QUIT SMOKING TOTALLY.CIgerate contains carbon (ii) oxide, which compete with the Haemo in the red blood cell for the oxygen that comes into the lungs during respiration.The effect of this too dangerous.Stay away from smokers if you don't smoke,the effect of the smoke on you is more than it is on them.

    14. Avoid alcohol.the glucose in alcohol is much.Alcohol causes liver cirrhosis.

    15. Sleep adequately,at least 8 hours during the night.Importantly be in bed before 9 pm,most important metabolic processes starts from then and it will be effective if the body is at the state of rest.

    16. Monitor your blood pressure.Do pressure test at least once a week.

    17. Monitor your CHOLESTEROL intake.Too much cholesterol causes the disease called Arterosclerosis.

    18. Your work schedule should be regular to aviod over stress.

    19. Practice stress- reduction techniques such as deep-breathing,yoga and medication.

    20. Laughter is a good medicine.Smile always,it cost nothing,it solves a lot.The muscles you need to smile is less than that you need to frown.

    21. Do a regular medical check up to know the state of your heart and to know what precuations to take .

    22. Control Diabetes.

    23. Know your family history of cardiovascular disease.Did any one in your family tree die of any heart disease?Then you are at risk.

    24. Love: Give and Receive it.

    25. Only take medications prescribed by qualified doctors.

    Have a healthy life.Have a happy life.

    In furtherance of some of my health tips,I want to bring to you today some few out of the many dangers of smoking.I can authoritatively say to you that smoking is more of a wasteful than profitable ventures.I want to believe that part of our resolution for this year is to be engaged only in profitable ventures.
    I hope that the long tme i spend in libraries and on the internet to get this information and posting them will be a profitable one by changing someone way of doing things.
    The dangers of smoking is displayed on the personality involved,the Family,the society,environment and to a large extent the economy.
    Cigarettes contains more than 700 chemical additives, some of which are toxic and non- food classified.Cigarette temperature reaches 2,000 degrees Fahrenhiet once lit.At this temperature it releases thousands of chemical compounds with poisons like Carbon monoxide,hydrogen cyanide, at least 43 carcinogens and other mutagens which are all inhaled by smokers into the body.I will save you the details in order not to bore you with much to read.I know only few blacks like reading.

    Here are some of the Dangers:

    1.Nicotine content of cigarette is the one responsible for making smoker to want take more and more sticks after the first one.It enter into the blood stream and on to the brain,half of it is deposited there and do not go back out with the smoke being exhaled.It raises the heart rate and blood pressure.Potential heart disease on the way.

    2. Tar from tobacco smoke (just like the coal tar for road construction) accumulate on the bronchial tubes leading to the lungs causing blockage with time.The hot smoke also burns the tiny hair-like projections called cilia that traps harmful particles from entering the lungs.

    3. Smoking increases the level of carbon monxide or carbon (ii) oxide in the lungs.This poisonous gas is absorbed into the blood,reducing its capacity to carry oxgen.As a result, a smoker lacks physical effort to attain tasks that non-smoker does as His heart must work harder during such task.Carbon monoxide in blood causes impaired vision,perception of time and coordination.with time respiratory ailments,thickening of arteries,blood clots,cancer of the lungs,cervix,larynx,mouth,esophagus,bladder,pancreas,kidney,empysema,develop as well as syptoms of reduction of stamina,poor athletic performance,wheezing,coughing,dizziness and nausea. prolong use of tobacco leads to stained teeth,finger,bad breath (smelling mouth),smelling cloths and room.

    4. The cost of smoking is high, much money is spent buying cigarettes daily.So much is also spent treating diseases that result from smoking.This reduces the standard of living of smokers.Much money is spent on dentists for stained teeth,breath freshners.

    5. Second-hand smoking is another very dangerous effect of smoking.It has being scientifically proven that it is more dangerous than smoking itself.This refer to being around smokers,people who are in the company of smoker inhale a high percentage of the smoke.The danger is that,the smoke being exhaled by the smoker, comes out and mixes up with more toxic substances in the atmoshpere and then inhaled by the non-smoker.This causes more harm to the non-smoker.

    6. Smokers gives a high risk of starting fires.Most household fire in America is traceable to carelessly left lit cigarette.Most smokers are addicted to it ,hence separated from their loved ones.People stay away from them because of thier smells.

    7. It seperates you from God, as marriage to the world and things in it, is serartion from God.Cigarette becomes a God in the life of smokers,and any thing that takes the place of God in the life of man, means death.

    The same way you started smoking, you can also stop it.You might need external help from friends and loved ones and most importantly, the help of God.First acknowledge your helplessness and call God to help you.The act of smoking is controled be a spirit,and it only takes the spirit of God to overcome it.

    Here are some Tips:


    Stop Smoking - Positive Useful Tips

    1. Built up a strong belief in you blended with stronger will power to quit smoking. Consider giving up smoking as one of the very difficult things you have done in your life. It’s all up to you.

    2. Develop your plan and take a decision right away for doing things accordingly.

    3. Make short note why you want to stop smoking live longer far better, for your family, some money, smell better to find a mate easily etc. you know very well what is bad about smoking and what you will achieve when you stop smoking. Put the same on a paper and read it daily once.

    4. Seek an all out stop smoking support from your family and friends for your decision to stop smoking. Tell them in the very near future you may become irritable, even irrational as a cause of quitting smoking habit.

    5. Get on with a set date to stop smoking and also decide on what day you intend to say a final good-bye to cigarette. You may hold a small ceremony when you smoke your last cigarette. It’s up to your liking.

    6. Speak to your doctor about quitting. A wholehearted support from a physician would work out as proven way to better off your shames to quit.

    7. An exercise program on daily basis is going to help you relive of stress, and recover from years of damage from cigarettes, may be you can start walking ones or twice per day. You may also consider about some rigorous activities 3 to 4 times per week. Consult your physician prior to begin any exercise program. (Stop Smoking Exercises)

    8. Practice some deep breathing every day 3 to 5 minutes breath in through the nose slowly hold breath for a few seconds, exhale slowly through your mouth.

    9. Begin to imagine your way as a non-smoker. Close your eyes imagine yourself turning down offers of cigarettes, offered by someone, throwing all of your packs of cigarette away, winning a gold medal for doing so. A powerful imagination really works.

    10. Cut back on cigarettes keep it with a gradual speed. This situation would call for a clear cut plan as to ‘how many cigarettes ‘ you will smoke everyday reducing the number following each day; you buy only one pack at a time, changing brands means you don’t enjoy smoking as much pall on cigarettes to someone else when feel like to smoke you have to ask for each time.

    11. Mostly smokers feel if to give up smoking take firm decision once for all, just to stop smoking suddenly, no point trying to go slow and steady. You are the best judge quitting cold turkey or by gradual quitting.

    12. Make a genuine attempt to find out another smoker who is also trying to stop smoking help each other disusing some positive thought just because quitting becomes different.

    13. You have ‘clean sheet’ now after quitting smoking your area non smoker. You can now think of celebrating the milestone of your journey step by step. After a period of two weeks see a movie, visit a funny restaurant a month after. Covering a time span of three months move out for you after six months. A year after have a party for yourself, invite your family friends to your birthday party, celebrate your new beginning of life.

    14. To drink lot of water. Drinking of more would help flushing out nicotine and chemical out of your body.

    15.Avoid triggers, learn to plan alternative means and way to deal with the trigger like you feel smoking when in stress, in the end of a meal, arrival at the work, entering a bar etc.

    Well lets delibrate on one of the most important cancer now.
    The prostate gland is situated below the bladder,at the front of the rectum.It is responsible for the production of liquid which nourishes, protects and conveys sperm during ejaculation.The gland is only found in Men,hence the cancer only affect Men,just like Breast cancer is only for Women.

    The cancer occur in Men from 50 years and above.It is a condition where by the cells of the prostate mutate and multiple without control.These cells spread to other parts of the body called metastasize,mainly in the bones lymph nodes.

    The disease which is the most common cancer in men.Factors of genetic root and diets,high sexual activities are thought to be the causes of the disease.The chances of having the disease are more among those whose Father or Brother has prostate cancer (it is good you know the actual disease that cause the death of any relation of yours in the event of death in your family).

    Prostate cancer is more prevalent among Men of African-carribbean,African-American decent and also the western countries.

    1.The urge for frequent urination.

    2. Disturbed sleep as a result of Urination.

    3. Delay or hesitancy before urination.

    4. Difficulty or pain in passing Urine.

    The advance stage shows the following symptoms:

    Prostate cancer is prevented by the intake of healthy diet, low in fat.To an extent, red meet intake places one at a high risk to the disease.Vitamines E,Selenium, and also lycopene.


    Treatment of prostate cancer is through surgeries,proton therapy, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, hormonal therapy or some combination of the three.

    The day i saw a caption that read "Crying can make you healthier", my curiousity hormones was risen,and I went into research.
    Although most, if not all living things cry,its only Human being that sheds tears and maybe Apes.

    The causes of crying can be grouped into two: some people cry out of sadness or sorrow while others cry out of joy.


    In the case of crying out of sadness the following reasons are connected,these include :Traumatic events, prolonged stress,loneliness,loss, pain,and some other simple daily hassles are the trigger of crying.While other shed tears or cry when they are extremely happy,joyful and/or have had a relief from some thing.


    The frequency at which people cry varies and is influenced by factors such as: gender (some believe that Men shouldn't cry),Age (they say big girls don't cry), Perception of event, social attitudes, health, personality, characteristics e.t.c.
    Other forms include weeping in as in poetry,fiction and movies.

    Crying has significant health benefits.The amount of tears shed varies from one person to another.There are four biological mechanisms that function as catalyst influencing the amount of tears we shed, these include:

    1.Genetic Influence.

    2. Dietary Influence.

    3. Hormone levels.

    4. Circadian Rhythms (we are more likely to cry, if we are deprived of sleep at certain time of the day or when we are extremely hungry)

    BENEFIT OF CRYING:

    Prior to crying time,the level of several kinds of stress hormone is increased in the body.These stress hormones can cause damage to virtually all body system such as the brain cells.

    Stress hormones has negative effect on the Cardiovascular,Gastrointestinal,endocrine, musculoskeletal and immune system.And crying helps as a medium through which these stress hormones are removed from the body.
    Hence all the Stress hormones connected to every imaginable, stress related health problems are removed from the body via tears when we cry.Crying gives relief to the body system


    Tears also has a washing effect on the eyes, as it washes dirt out of the eyes during crying.Thus people are relieved after a very good cry.


    Though,prolonged crying can cause; swollen eyes, sore throat,stomach ache,and/or blotching skin on the face,but this will go away after a while when crying has stopped.Campaign is on, presently to eliminate all stigma associated with crying.

    So when next you feel very hurt,open up your mouth and cry well.Let nothing hinder you from crying it out.

    Suppression of CRY may lead to Bitterness,Sorrow,Depression,Frustration and this can result to heart problem and subsequently DEATH.So what do you need all this for, when you can just cry it off in 15 minutes and get on.

    A friend of mine once infered that, the reason why Men die earlier than Women is because, Men hold so much to the saying that real Men don't cry.As a result, men continue to accumulate their pains and sorrow hence reducing their life span.It is not far from being true, cause it has been proven scientifically that the Happier you live, the longer your lifespan.

    Crying is not a sign of weakness,but a display of strength in another form.Weakness is a display of inabilities,while strength is a display of ABILITIES.

    Women are very happy because they cry at every provocation (though there are exceptions), thereby freeing themselves of the causes of the provocation.

    Please learn to cry today,it gives relief,it keeps the heart and every other organs of the body healthy.I always feel very happy after anytime i cry.There is difference between sobbing and crying.You can be crying and the person next to you do not know, can I call that SOB-LESS crying.

    The one you love and trust so much may have let you down and you feel so hurt.It seems like the world you live in have folded around you, and you are even considering suicide.
    No!! stop and think, you can get over it and move on,the future is bright,you can't afford to give up.
    Here are some possitive steps toward recovering from the shock and pain you feel.

    STEPS TO TAKE

    1. Get rid of such objects that remind you of the person who broke your heart. Return, sell, burn, or throw them away. Get rid of photos, letters, emails, and other such items.

    2. Avoid that person if possible. Try to minimize meetings with your former love.

    3. Recognize the reasons why you feel bad, think of ways in which some of these reasons can be eliminated or avoided.

    4. Remember why the romance ended. The relationship ended because you deserve better.

    5. Remember there will be better days ahead.

    6. Spend more time with your friends and family.

    7. If you do not workout or exercise, start doing that, as it helps reduce stress and depression. Exercise will help improve your body and self image.

    8. Take a bath or shower when feeling very unhappy.

    9. Start a new hobby or pastime. The pleasure of accomplishing something will counter act to the feelings of sadness.

    10. Keep busy.

    11. Find activities to do that make you happy. Stay away from sad movies and the like.

    12. Listen to music that gets adrenaline rushing, do not listen to slow, sad or romantic songs.

    13. Meet new people, you might find someone who will heal your heart.

    i. It is a good idea to cry/weep if you feel like it, crying can help with the tension and stress of a breakup. It is a natural emotional release.

    ii. If you feel so hurt,get the persons pictures and shred it into minute pieces, get any of His/Her cloth or anything that remind you of Him or Her and burn them,assume that you are doing it to the person himself,by that you have burnt him/Her out of your life.

    iii. Always keep busy. Don't give yourself time to think about the heart break.

    iv. If you are around where the person might be seeing you,make yourself scarese to Him/Her.When you see periodically,make you look better than you were when (S)He left you.

    v. Do productive things for yourself and the society, a better self image will make your a more satisfied and happy person.

    vi. Play games/sports in your free time.

    vii. Get involved in group activities, that way, when you feel like thinking about the heartbreak, your partners will still manage to grab your attention and your mood will change.

    viii. Avoid being alone as much as possible.

    ix. It may help to wallow at least once. Go ahead and eat ice cream, or chocolate while sitting on the couch.
    But, do not let this linger; otherwise, depression will kick in. However, it does help at first to think.

    WARNINGS
    - Don't try for a new relationship right after a romance ends. Give yourself some time.

    - If you are a guy, it is okay to cry privately. Some people may not understand why men cry.

    -If you are feeling depressed or suicidal, talk to your doctor immediately!

    -If you do not recover in 2 years time, and it still hurts really bad, try moving towns.

    -Smart people who are psychologists will say, everyone heals at their own pace. The bruised and wounded heart makes one a more compassionate human, and it is that self-compassion which if nurtured will allow you to heal.

    v. POOR ORAL HYGIENE: can lead to a variety of dental and medical problems such as gum disease,infections,bone loss,heart disease,strokes and more.Regular check ups and cleaning can prevent all of the above mentioned.

    vi. BACTERIA DEPOSIT ON THE TONGUE:The food particles left in the mouth and on the tongue if not flossed will form into bateria,producing acids that causes teeth decay.

    If bad breath is caused by any of the above mentioned dental condition,mouth wash will only mask the odor and not cure it.

  • PREVENTION OF HALITOSIS

    Regular dental check ups,and cleaning, flossing daily and brushing your teeth and tongue twice a day can greatly reduce and possibly eliminate bad breath.

    Below are some preventive and curative measure:

    1. Visit your Dentist regularly.This is the best way to make sure you are maintaining a good oral hygiene.

    2. Brush your teeth and tongue at least twice daily.Or do it any time during the day, when your mouth feel funny (do i need to teach you how to do this again?haba?I mean how to brush).

    3. There is a saying that "(S)He that has a closed mouth will have a smell",so at intervals open your mouth for fresh air to enter.If you don't have what to say, just say Praise the lord, HALELLUYAH (3times).

    4. Floss your teeth daily.Flossing will remove food debrish from in between the teeth than tooth brush can.

    5. The use of Anti-microbial mouth rinse such as LISTERINE or CREST PRO-HEALTH will help.Check your local pharmacy for it.Note that if dental problem is the cause of the chronic bad breath,a mouth rinse will only mask the odor for a while and not cure it.

    6. Brush your tongue daily to help remove bacteria.

    7. Do not smoke or use tobacco product in any form.Tobacco tend to dry your mouth and can leave an unpleasant smell.

    8. Avoid dry mouth.Use saliva substitute and be sure to drink plenty water.

    9. Having a minty thing in you mouth to chew per time may be of help.

    10.     Good day,
    I have bn having difficulties accessing this site for some time since last week.it always give me one funny notice.At one point, i had to send a message to one email address it asked me to contact.Could it be a probelm from my side or the site.

  • i encountered the same problem so its 4m the site.
  • Since everybody had the problem, its from the site. It was actually a slight problem from my web hosts. Some slight technical issues.

    I hope you are not experiencing those problems any more.
