You just graduated from school? You just got laid off from work? What do you desperately need right now. It’s a job right? I mean how are you going to cope without any means of income. Your last work place said your services were not needed anymore simply because there were new kids on the block who were fresh from school with all the expertise your company needed. You just graduated from school and there seem to be no clue of where to go get a job? Your friends seem to be making headway in their job search and it looks like you are the only one not making progress. Is this your situation? Its time, to take charge of the situation.
You are not going to kill yourself because you’ve been laid off from work and you can’t afford the good things anymore. Here are some tips to help you cope with your job status and bounce back into the job sphere.
Relax
The first thing to do after you have been relieved of your job is to relax, take things easy and don’t be too hard on yourself. What I mean by relaxing is that you take charge of the situation and critically ask yourself pertinent questions. Questions like;
What went wrong?
How did I contribute to my present situation?
You may not have ready answers to those questions at first, but be sure not to let self pity overwhelm you, get up and move, ask yourself what next line of action to take. What did I do at this point? Well I made a list of those things that I still wanted to achieve, and didn’t doubt any.
Re-write your resume’
What new skills did you acquire in your last job, write a comprehensive list of the skills you have, and the jobs you have done in the past. Don’t look down on any job you have done, no matter how irrelevant you think those jobs were, include theme in your resume’. Remember your resume’ should be able to attract, meaning it should be concise and focused on result. Put every detail down, After all you have got all the time now.
Who can help?
There is this saying that no man is an island. You have friends and relatives that you think can help? Contact them, talk with them about your jobs search and always ask them to help talk to someone else who can help you. You never know where help can come from. Network as much as possible and not hide the fact that you are jobless.
Throw a book at them
I saw this sub-head somewhere and found it very interesting. DiModica says you can set yourself apart other job seekers by sending a $30 book to the employers you are going to have an interview with.
“The business book you send –preferably a best seller—should be based on the industry you want to work in. inside the book, write: ‘I saw this and thought you may find it intriguing ‘then sign your name and telephone number. Call the recipient two days latter, say that you are the person who sent the book and ask to meet for 20 minutes,” advices DiModica.
If you ask me, I think this job search tactics works. It is going to portray you as a serious minded person. What do employers of labor really want? They want to hire someone who is serious minded to handle the responsibilities that comes with a job.
I wish you success as you bounce back into the world of work. Good luck!
